Lowe’s Foundation skilled trades investment grows to $43 million
The Lowe’s Foundation has announced the third cohort of its Gable Grants program, increasing its commitment to addressing the skilled trades labor gap to $43 million across 28 states.
The program is part of a five-year, $50 million initiative to help community and technical colleges and nonprofits prepare trades professionals across carpentry and construction, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and property maintenance. A total of 12 new grants will expand the network to 60 organizations.
Recipients include Blue Ridge Community College in Flat Rock, North Carolina, which will bolster ongoing Hurricane Helene recovery efforts by expanding support for advanced manufacturing, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and construction apprenticeships; Los Angeles Community College District, which will enhance its skilled trades curriculum while expanding the capacity of its construction, maintenance, and utilities programs; Ivy Tech Community College in Indianapolis, which will receive a second Gable Grant to launch a property maintenance technician program and enhance its HVAC training; and Texas State Technical College in Waco, which will equip a nearly 130,000 square-foot construction technology center while offering tool stipends to eligible students.
