Celebrating Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Heritage Month
Dear LACCD Community,
As we celebrate Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) Heritage Month, I invite you to join me in honoring the rich legacy of leadership and resilience that the APIDA community continues to bring to our campuses, our region, and our world.
This year’s national theme, “A Legacy of Leadership and Resilience,” resonates deeply with the contributions of APIDA students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners across the Los Angeles Community College District. Whether leading in student government, advancing education, building bridges across cultures, or uplifting underserved communities, the APIDA community is a vital part of LACCD’s story.
We are especially proud to highlight the Asian Pasifika Desi American (APDA+) Student Summit & Scholar Recognition, which took place on Saturday at Los Angeles Harbor College. This Districtwide gathering was an opportunity to celebrate the academic achievement and leadership of our APDA+ students while fostering a sense of belonging and solidarity.
As we look ahead, LACCD is committed to expanding partnerships both locally and abroad that support and celebrate the APIDA community. From educational exchanges to global learning opportunities, we recognize the power of cross-cultural engagement in preparing our students to lead with empathy and vision in an interconnected world.
Let us take this moment not only to reflect on a legacy of resilience—but to build on it, together.
Warm regards,
Dr. Alberto J. Román, DPA
Chancellor
