Mike Fong was elected to the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) Board of Trustees in March of 2015. From April 18, 2018 to July 10, 2019, Trustee Mike Fong served as President of the Los Angeles Community College District Board, after being elected Vice President by his peers in 2017. President Fong has made significant contributions on the Board of Trustees. He serves as a member of the three Standing Committees, Budget and Finance, Facilities Master Planning and Oversight Committee, and he Chairs the Legislative and Public Affairs Committee. Mr. Fong also chairs the Jobs and the Economy Ad-Hoc Committee and the Chancellor’s Committee on Asian Pacific Islander Affairs Committee.  

The Los Angeles Community College District is among the largest districts in the country, representing over 250,000 students, nine community colleges, and serving students from 40 cities. Trustee Fong’s priorities include increasing student success, improving the quality and access to educational opportunities, as well as to expanding workforce education and high-growth sector training programs.

A lifelong Angeleno, Board President Fong serves as Director of Policy and Government Relations for the City of Los Angeles Department of Neighborhood Empowerment. In this role, he leads a team of experienced professionals on policy development and government relations in empowering and collaborating with Neighborhood Council Board Members, community leaders, and stakeholders in their efforts to improve the lives of residents throughout the City of Los Angeles.  

Trustee Fong previously served as the East Area Director for Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. In this capacity, he served as the primary liaison between the Mayor’s office and the dynamic and diverse communities in Northeast and East Los Angeles. As Policy Director for Workforce Development in the Mayor’s office, Trustee Fong helped to create high growth sector job training programs and opportunities for adults and creating opportunities for young adults to participate in the City’s Hire LA Youth Summer Internship program.  

Active in the community, Trustee Fong serves as the immediate Past Chair of the PBS Southern California Asian Pacific Islander Community Council, a Member of the White Memorial Medical Center Community Leadership Council, and the Southern Vice Chair of the California Democratic Party Asian Pacific Islander Caucus. Mike also served as Past President of the Asian Pacific Alumni of UCLA and as a board member for the UCLA Alumni Association.  

Trustee Fong graduated from California State University at Northridge with a Master of Public Administration in Public Sector Management & Leadership and from University of California at Los Angeles with a B.S. in Psychobiology and a Minor in Education.
