BACKGROUND
is a Los Angeles Community College District
Workforce Development program that provides support to
the many Entertainment Studies programs offered throughout
our nine colleges.
The diverse Entertainment
Studies programs that CREATE LA supports encompass
all general and most specialized areas of the Entertainment
Industry including Cinema,
Television, Video, Broadcasting, Music, Theatre, Animation
(Traditional and Digital) and Multimedia, as well as
Production, Performance, Editing, Lighting, Costuming,
Stage Management and Stage Craft. Students who successfully
complete LACCD's
programs can earn an Associate of Arts degree, a Certificate
(in a Specialization), or use earned credits for transfer
to a four-year school.
To support each of the nine colleges,
CREATE LA works with many Entertainment Industry partners,
including the
Entertainment
Economy Institute (link opens new browser window),
Workplace
Hollywood (link opens new browser window) and the Multimedia
Entertainment Initiative - MEI (link opens new browser

Economic
and Workforce Development (EWD) Unit of California's Community
Colleges Chancellor's Office. Each partner contributes
essential insight, guidance, or funding to support Program
Development, Job-Shadowing opportunities for faculty, Internships
and Mentorships for students, Guest Lecturers and Advisory
Board members for classrooms and program oversight, and
Curriculum and Technical Advisors to provide expertise
on current and planned curricula, programs and facilities.
Most importantly, CREATE LA works
with Workplace
Hollywood (link opens new browser window) to
develop, implement and continually improve the Production
Assistant
Boot
Camp (link opens new browser window) , a
specially-funded program that is open to all students
enrolled in any of our nine colleges.
Before applying for the Production
Assistant Boot Camp,
our students generally have a strong base of knowledge
about and skills applicable to the Entertainment Industry.
The Production Assistant Boot
Camp focuses that knowledge
and those skills, and prepares the students to serve as
Production Assistants on-set or in the office. Beginning
work as a Production Assistant alongside working professionals,
learning how the network functions, and discovering unique
and special ways to contribute to a production's
success is the traditional and acknowledged route to a
long-lasting and fulfilling career in the Entertainment
Industry.
Upon successful completion
of the Production
Assistant Boot Camp,
CREATE LA attempts to arrange interviews
with industry employers for those students who are
serious about their careers, and want to begin working
full-time
in the industry.
