Students throughout Los Angeles will have a chance to win $1,000 at free Cash for College workshops being held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday January 21. Five colleges in the Los Angeles Community College District are hosting workshops: East Los Angeles College, Los Angeles City College, Los Angeles Harbor College, Los Angeles Southwest College and Los Angeles Trade-Technical College.
Parents and students will receive free hands-on help in filling out financial aid forms at the workshops, as filing deadlines are approaching for those students who wish to receive aid to attend college in the fall 2006 semester.
Applicants should bring federal income tax returns; W-2 forms, pay check stubs or any records of earned income; current bank statements; and records of investments.
After completing the workshop, students will be entered into a drawing for a $1,000 scholarship, sponsored by the California Student Aid Commission. One student from each workshop site will receive an award that will be forwarded to their college of choice. For additional information on other workshop sites, visit www.lacashforcollege.org or call 888-CA-GRANT.
Financial aid for college is available for qualified candidates regardless of age, income, grades or immigration status.
