Forty Students Will Begin Orientation This Month

Los Angeles… The Los Angeles Community College District announced a partnership with Siemen’s Building Technologies, Inc. to prepare community college students for careers in engineering and management. Students will have the opportunity to job shadow, intern, and when appropriate, become full-time employees of the company in any one of its facilities, including Munich, Germany.

Siemen’s, a company with 425,000 employees in more than 190 countries worldwide, is the world’s largest supplier of products, systems, solutions and services for industrial automation and building technology. “For many years, we have provided the LACCD with campus infrastructure improvements for safety and efficiency,” said Troy Behrens, SBT College Relations Manager for Siemens Building Technologies.“ Now, we are helping students learn how to bridge the gap between school and work and are assisting to solidify the educational infrastructure with innovative consulting services.”

Last August, engineering and construction technology faculty from Los Angeles Trade-Technical College and East Los Angeles College attended an orientation program in the company’s headquarters in Chicago. The first orientation for 20 students from each of the two colleges will begin in October at the Siemens facility in Cypress Gardens.

“This partnership represents an outstanding opportunity for our Business and Engineering students, “ said Dr. William Grevatt, an LACCD Special Projects Director. “ It will give them access to excellent training and work experience, potentially leading to a full-time career, with a first-rate, internationally recognized Fortune 500 Company.”

”We hope we are able to extend this partnership to other colleges in the district,” Behrens said.
