For their Assistance in the ELAC Collegian Bus-way Improvement Project

The City of Monterey Park and East Los Angeles College hosted an appreciation ceremony for U.S. Congress members Adam Schiff, D-Monterey Park and Hilda Solis, D-East Los Angeles for their efforts in securing funding for improving the bus-way area at the college.

“Improving the public transit lines for this region offers significant assistance to residents who need increased access to professional services and college classes,” said Congressman Adam Schiff at the appreciation ceremony. “I believe that securing this funding sends a strong message of support to this community.”

“The project will help to achieve increased community access to mass transit, one of our region's key transportation goals,” said Congresswoman Hilda L. Solis. “The busway will facilitate transfers to other bus lines or bus systems so transit riders can more easily travel to their final destination.”

In his remarks, East Los Angeles College President Earnest Moreno concluded, “This will be great benefit to ELAC students.”

The bus stop area has not seen any improvements since it has become a major hub for the Los Angeles County Metro and Montebello Bus Line and the City of Monterey Park’s own Spirit bus system. Funding will allow for substantial improvement of the current layover hub, by improving public right-of-way, passenger drop-off/pick–up, pedestrian paths, sidewalks, and crosswalks.
