Los Angeles… At its June 15, 2005 meeting, the Board of Trustees of the Los Angeles Community College District named Dr. Doris Pichon Givens Interim President of West Los Angeles College. She is currently Interim President of Los Angeles City College, (LACC) where she has served since September 2003.

“Our district is fortunate to have someone of Dr. Givens' caliber available for this one-year position,” said Los Angeles Community College District Chancellor Peter J. Landsberger. “She brings a wealth of experience and skill to West Los Angeles College, based on her success at LACC.”

Dr. Givens, originally a student at West Los Angeles College, received an Associate of Arts Degree from Grossmont Community College, her Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Science Degrees from San Diego State University, and a Ph.D. in Community College Leadership and Public Affairs from the University of Texas at Austin.

“I’m looking forward to returning to West Los Angeles College, the place where I got my start, as a returning student, in 1972. I am leaving the 'urban oasis' ( LACC) to begin the Westside story…and it will be a good story."

As Interim President at Los Angeles City College, Dr. Givens revitalized the shared governance process; oversaw the 75th college anniversary celebration; lead the college community through a review of the college master plan and all Proposition A/AA activities; oversaw the hiring of close to 50 new faculty and greatly improved faculty morale and student learning outcomes.

Dr. Givens will begin her duties in August, 2005.
