Los
Angeles…The Board of Trustees of the Los Angeles
Community College District named Judith Valles as the new
president for Los Angeles Mission College.
Ms. Valles has over 40 years of
experience in the field of education. She served as Interim
President of Oxnard College in Oxnard, California; President
of Golden West College in Huntington Beach, California;
Interim President at Coastline Community College and President
of the Board of Trustees for San Bernardino Community College
District. Most recently, she served for eight years as
Mayor of San Bernardino, California.
“We had a strong pool of
candidates to choose from,” said LACCD Chancellor
Marshall Drummond. “It was a difficult decision but
we decided that Ms. Valles, with her diverse experience,
is the best fit for the presidency of Los Angeles Mission
College.”
Ms. Valles received her Honorary
Doctorate in Education and M.A. in Spanish Language and
Literature from the University of Redlands in Redlands,
California. Her Doctoral Studies on Community College Leadership
were done at the University of California, Los Angeles.
Los Angeles Mission College is
located in the San Fernando Valley and serves the neighboring
communities of San Fernando, Pacoima, Mission Hills, North
Hills, Panorama City and Granada Hills. The current interim
president, Ernest Moreno, has served the college since
the summer of 2006. Prior to that, Mr. Moreno was President
of East Los Angeles College, where he plans to return.
