Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) Chancellor Darroch “Rocky” Young and LAPD Chief William Bratton will present 35 Los Angeles Police Foundation Scholarships to deserving students during a 2 p.m. ceremony Monday December 12 in the Board Room at the district office, 770 Wilshire Blvd. in downtown Los Angeles.
“The demand for our college programs in Administration of Justice is growing, along with the demand for trained professionals,” Chancellor Young said.
“Our AJ programs that prepare candidates for careers in law enforcement, parole, probation, correctional prison officers and homeland security positions are recognized by all criminal justice agencies.”
Scholarships are given annually to students in their second year of college, with a 3.0 grade point average. Recipients also must have completed at least 12 units toward an administration of justice program leading to a law enforcement career.
“I would like to thank my professors, other students and the Police Foundation for selecting me,” said honoree Tanya Veasley. “As president of the West Los Angeles College Criminal Justice Club, I will encourage our students to take a stronger role in being involved beyond the classroom.”
The $1,000 Scholarships are made possible by the generous support of DMJM; the Los Angeles Police Foundation/Lori Gonzales Scholarship Fund; Verizon; and the Winnick Family Foundation.
The nine Los Angeles Community College District campuses provide the best career education possible, with convenient locations throughout the city and over 2900 different courses serving more than 120,000 students. Visit www.lacolleges.net.
