LOS ANGELES, CA (August 13, 2010)
-- Longtime community college administrator Rose Marie
Joyce has been named Interim President of West Los Angeles
College by the Board of Trustees for the Los Angeles Community
College District.
Dr. Joyce, who will begin her tenure
at West Los Angeles College on August 25, had been superintendent/president
of Rio Hondo Community College from 2002-2007. She also
had served as superintendent/president at Gavilan Community
College in Gilroy, vice president of instruction at Gavilan
Community College, director of educational services for
the State Center Community College District in Fresno and
director of grants and foundation at State Center Community
College District.
Dr. Joyce earned a bachelor's degree
in liberal arts at Immaculate Heart College. She has two
master's degrees: one in curriculum and instruction from
California State University, Dominguez Hills and the other
in educational administration from California State University,
Los Angeles. She also earned a doctorate in leadership
and human behavior from United States International University.
She now serves as president of
the board of Rotaplast International, a humanitarian organization
that provides cleft lip and palate surgeries for poor children
worldwide.
Dr. Joyce, 68, will serve as Interim
President of West Los Angeles College for about a year
while a formal search is conducted for a permanent president.
Betsy Regalado, Vice President
of Student Services at West Los Angeles, had served as
the college's Acting President since July, when West's
former president, Dr. Mark W. Rocha, became Superintendent
/ President of Pasadena City College.
