Contracts will bring needed construction services and upgrades at Los Angeles Harbor, Mission and Southwest Colleges as part of the $2.2 billion Proposition A and AA Bond program

March 3, 2006 (LOS ANGELES) – The Los Angeles Community Colleges, consisting of nine Los Angeles-area colleges, announced today that it has awarded $411,620 in construction contracts to three separate businesses for construction and upgrade projects at three of its colleges.  Each contract is the result of formal competitive bidding and will be funded by Propositions A and AA, as part of the $2.2 billion bond measure construction program overwhelmingly approved by voters in 2001 and 2003.

The Colleges’ Board of Trustees authorized the following construction contracts in February 2006:

Harbor College:  An agreement was authorized with Sierra School Equipment Company, a business based in Bakersfield, Calif. to provide renovation and re-upholstery of the fixed seating in the theater for the Theater Drama Speech Building project in the amount of $66,580.  Funding for this project is provided through Proposition A/AA Bond proceeds.

Mission College:   A contract was authorized with Siekertech, Inc. a local business based in West Hills, Calif. to provide audio-video equipment for the Campus Center – General project in the amount of $7,540.  This project will provide for the purchase and set-up of audio-visual equipment at the Campus Center training lab.  This project is funded by Proposition A/AA Bond proceeds.

Southwest College:  An agreement was authorized with Waisman Construction, a local and small business based in Woodland Hills, Calif. to provide construction services for the PE Gym, Acoustic Sound System project in the amount of $337,500.  Funding for this project is provided through Proposition A/AA Bond proceeds.

The Los Angeles Community Colleges are committed to contracting with local and small businesses to the greatest extent possible.  Companies interested in participating in the historic renovation and modernization of the nine campuses are encouraged to contact Donetta Pickett at Donetta.Pickett@dmjmjgm.com, and to visit www.PropositionA.org and click on “Doing Business with Us.”
