Ken Lewis, CEO of Bank of American presented Los Angeles Trade-Technical College with a $1 million contribution in support of LATTC’s new Regional Economic Development Institute (REDI).

Lewis joined L.A. Mayor Antonio Villarigosa and LATTC President Dr. Roland “Chip” Chapdelaine in announcing the new Institute that will provide both advanced technical and basic skills training to unemployed and underemployed residents in Los Angeles to improve their job placement.

REDI endeavors to re-engineer public education (K-16) to seamlessly and effectively connect high demand industries and jobs to California’s workforce.

REDI’s  workforce collaborative – a high level advisory committee of business, government and community leaders – is identifying the current and emerging job opportunities, skills and training required to meet the workforce needs within four targeted industries: tourism/hospitality, sustainable energy/utility; technology; and construction.

Education and training progress will be developed to fill entry level to executive level jobs.  It is anticipated that thousands of students will be able to enroll in courses developed by REDI.  A full range of educational certificates and degrees will be offered including skills certificates, certificates of completion, associate in arts and associate of science degrees.  In addition, students will be able to complete four-year degrees at partnering colleges.

Energy/utility collaborative, the hospitality collaborative and the Triple Crown initiative will begin to enroll/register students starting this fall.  For more information, call 213.763.7022.
