Download the Press Release

Eva Jackson, the current Associated Student Organization president at Los Angles Southwest College, has been elected as the new Student Trustee for the Los Angeles Community Colleges District (LACCD), effective June 1, 2007.  She will be sworn in during the June 13 bimonthly meeting of the Board.

“Eva has been a joy to work with,” L.A. Southwest College (LASC) Interim President Dr. Jack E. Daniels said.  “She has evidenced her strong commitment to the college, students and community we serve and will be a valuable addition as Student Trustee.”

Under Jackson’s leadership, the LASC ASO hosted a student leadership institute and began a monthly newsletter.  Off campus, she leads Touch the World Ministries, runs an artist management company, volunteers in prison ministry at Eastlake Juvenile Hall and is a professional songwriter.  Jackson and her mother will both graduate from LASC during the college’s ceremonies June 5 and Eva will continue taking music courses this fall to complete her degree in music.

“I wanted to become Student Trustee because I want to voice the needs of the community college students,” she said, noting that she hopes to continue the work of Luis Gomez, the immediate past student trustee. “I’m just like they are and I am going to put my best foot forward so their needs and concerns are addressed.”

As the Student Trustee, Jackson will lead meetings of ASO Presidents from the nine Los Angeles Community Colleges: Los Angeles City College; East Los Angeles College; Los Angeles Harbor College; Los Angeles Mission College; Los Angeles Pierce College; Los Angeles Southwest College; Los Angeles Trade-Technical College; Los Angeles Valley College; and West Los Angeles College.  She will then report any concerns to the Board of Trustees and represent the colleges' students at the bimonthly LACCD board meetings.
