Trustee Miquel Santiago was sworn into office
Trustee Miquel Santiago was sworn into office by Dr. Judy Chu, Chair of the California State Board of Equalization, former California Assemblymember and former East Los Angeles College faculty member.

Miguel Santiago was sworn in today as the newest Trustee of the Los Angeles Community College District. Dr. Judy Chu, Chair of the California Board of Equalization administered the oath of office..

Mr. Santiago is employed as a Special Assistant of External Affairs for the Office of the Board of Equalization, where he is the community and labor liaison for Chair Judy Chu PhD. Previous to this position, he served as Field Coordinator for the Office of Assemblymember Cindy Montañez.

Born in 1973 in the San Fernando Valley to immigrant parents, Mr. Santiago attended public school and community college before transferring to the University of California, Los Angeles where he graduated Magna Cum Laude.

The LACCD does not have specific geographic Trustee areas. The seven at-large Board members each represent the entire District. Mr. Santiago will hold office until the next Trustee elections in spring 2009. If elected, he will serve a two-year term. In 2011, the seat will be up for election for a full four-year term. The Board regularly meets twice a month; each Trustee is paid $2000 monthly.

Mr. Santiago was joined at the ceremony by his mother, brother and Assemblymember Cindy Montañez.
