LOS ANGELES VALLEY COLLEGE SELECTS INTERIM PRESIDENT

Dr. Sue CarleoVALLEY GLEN, CA— Los Angeles Valley College has selected Dr. Sue Carleo to serve as Interim President. She will assume the position from June 1 through December 20, 2008. The search for a permanent College President will begin this summer, with an anticipated start date of January 1, 2009. Dr. Carleo will replace Dr. Tyree Wieder who is retiring this June.

Dr. Carleo has more than 30 years of experience in the field of education. Since December 2002, she has served as the Senior Associate Vice Chancellor of Human Resources for the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD). Prior to that, she served for six years as Los Angeles Valley College’s Vice President of Academic Affairs. She has also worked at the college as Director of the Center for the Advancement of Business, Labor and Education, and as Department Chair and Professor of the Family and Consumer Studies department. In addition, she has worked at Los Angeles Harbor College as Dean, Associate Dean and Acting Vice President of Academic Affairs and at New York’s Schenectady County Community College as Dean of Academic Affairs.

“I’m very excited to welcome Sue Carleo back to Los Angeles Valley College in this interim position,” said President Wieder. “Her extensive experience in working with community college faculty and the business community, coupled with her 17 years of experience at Valley College, will be a tremendous asset to the college.”

Carleo received a doctorate in education from University of California, Los Angeles, and she earned her master’s of science and bachelor’s of arts degrees from San Diego State University.

Los Angeles Valley College, which has 17,000 students, is located in the eastern San Fernando Valley. It serves the surrounding communities of Van Nuys, North Hollywood, Valley Village, Studio City, Sherman Oaks, Encino, Lake Balboa, Pacoima, Panorama City, Sun Valley and Burbank.
