LOS ANGELES, CA (August 13, 2010) -- Dr. Yasmin Delahoussaye, Vice President of Student Services at Los Angeles Valley College, has been named Interim Vice Chancellor for Educational Programs and Institutional Effectiveness by the Board of Trustees for the Los Angeles Community College District.

Dr. Delahoussaye, who will assume the Interim Vice Chancellor post on August 30, has been the chief student services officer at Valley College since May 1996. She also has served as articulation officer in the Office of Academic Affairs at Pierce College and director of outreach and matriculation at Pierce College.

“I am excited about the opportunity of working with our new Chancellor, Dr. Daniel LaVista, and becoming a member of his executive leadership team. I accepted this position because we both share the same passion and vision of making our District a national model for student success,” said Dr. Delahoussaye.

Dr. Delahoussaye, 58, earned a bachelor’s degree in history from California State University, Los Angeles. She has a master’s degree in educational psychology, counseling and guidance from California State University, Northridge, and a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of California, Los Angeles.

She has received numerous professional honors, including the Board of Governor’s John W. Rice diversity award, the Association of Community College Administrators diversity award, and the UCLA School of Education educational leadership award.

She is currently a member of the California State University, Northridge School of Education Advisory Board. She was appointed to the Human Relations Commission by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa in 2006 and received an appointment to the California Student Aid Commission by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2007.

Dr. Delahoussaye will serve as Interim Vice Chancellor for the 2010-2011 academic year. She is eligible to apply for the permanent position or any other related position that may evolve.

The interim vice chancellor post that Dr. Delahoussaye will assume combines two previous vice chancellor roles. John Clerx had been Vice Chancellor for Educational Support Services for three years before retiring in June after having served the LACCD for 30 years. Gary Colombo had served as Vice Chancellor for Institutional Effectiveness since October 2006. Colombo is now an instructor in the English Department at Los Angeles City College.
