Los Angeles…In an historic joint Board Meeting, the Boards of the Los Angeles Unified School District and the Los Angeles Community College District met together to discuss ways to improve student achievement and retention. Not since the LACCD and the LAUSD were formally separated in 1969, have the two Boards met together. The meeting was held Thursday, January 24, 2007 in the campus center of Los Angeles Valley College.

“We are delighted that this historic partnership meeting between the Boards of the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) and the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) finally took place, said LACCD President Sylvia Scott-Hayes. Our two organizations share the common goal of providing the highest quality education to all students of Los Angeles County. By working closely together, we will double our impact and effectiveness.”

Members of the boards of Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) voted on a joint resolution establishing a formal district-to-district partnership to enhance student preparation, increase college participation and encourage all area middle, high school and adult students to aspire to achieve college success.

The Boards heard from LAUSD Superintendent David Brewer III, LACCD Chancellor Marshall Drummond, administrators, students and joint program providers about on-going successful partnerships between the two institutions.
