District (LAUSD) and the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD,)
joined by LAUSD Superintendent David Brewer III and LAUSD Chancellor Marshall
Drummond, hold an historic joint meeting. |
Los
Angeles…In an historic joint Board Meeting, the Boards
of the Los Angeles Unified School District and the Los
Angeles Community College District met together to discuss
ways to improve student achievement and retention. Not
since the LACCD and the LAUSD were formally separated in
1969, have the two Boards met together. The meeting was
held Thursday, January 24, 2007 in the campus center of
Los Angeles Valley College.
“We are delighted that this historic partnership
meeting between the Boards of the Los Angeles Community
College District (LACCD) and the Los Angeles Unified School
District (LAUSD) finally took place, said LACCD President
Sylvia Scott-Hayes. Our two organizations share the common
goal of providing the highest quality education to all
students of Los Angeles County. By working closely together,
we will double our impact and effectiveness.”
Members of the boards of Los Angeles Unified School District
(LAUSD) and the Los Angeles Community College District
(LACCD) voted on a joint resolution establishing a formal
district-to-district partnership to enhance student preparation,
increase college participation and encourage all area middle,
high school and adult students to aspire to achieve college
success.
The Boards heard from LAUSD Superintendent David Brewer
III, LACCD Chancellor Marshall Drummond, administrators,
students and joint program providers about on-going successful
partnerships between the two institutions.
