CENTER FOR APPLIED COMPETITIVE TECHNOLOGIES (CACT)
The CACT's goal is to link small and medium-sized
manufacturers, and technology based companies with college programs. The initiative
was begun by the State Chancellor's office to increase manufacturing
competitiveness. The objective is to keep companies and jobs in California,
as opposed to the dramatic move toward outsourcing of manufacturing to other
states and countries. The CACT of the LACCD:
- Offers workshops (linked
to college offerings) to the manufacturing community
- Offers an
avenue for each college to highlight their technology programs through
demonstration
site tours
- Provides follow-up marketing visits to create a
closer link between the needs of business and the offerings of the
colleges
Thus, the CACT provides an avenue to showcase each college’s
unique offerings and provides assistance with company follow-up
and relationship
building.
Contracts and grants will result in providing funds for a variety
of campus and company
needs such as: workforce development, customized training, faculty
and student apprenticeships, etc.
