TINA PARK
First Vice President Board of Trustees
Tina Park was elected to the Board
of Trustees of the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) on May 19,
2009 and sworn into office on July 15, 2009. Ms. Park became the youngest female
and the first Korean-American elected to the LACCD Board of Trustees and is
also the first Korean-American elected countywide in the history of Los Angeles.
Ms.
Park was raised in a family of Christian
educators, who instilled in her from
an early age the desire to provide
a quality education, to help others,
and to give back to the community.
She has volunteered in soup kitchens,
mentored young children in after-school
programs, and has actively participated
in Christian outreach services, to
name a few.
Ms.
Park will be forever grateful for her
community college education which prepared
her for Hofstra University in New York,
where she majored in Accounting. After
graduating from Hofstra, Ms. Park accepted
a position at the New York Stock Exchange
(NYSE) as a financial auditor. In 2003,
she participated in a $1.4 billion
global settlement and enforcement agreement
among the Securities and Exchange Commission
(SEC), the National Association of
Securities Dealers (NASD), NYSE, and
ten of the largest investment firms
in the United States to address the
issue of conflict of interest within
their businesses.
Ms.
Park then accepted an offer as a financial
consultant at Protiviti Inc., one of
the largest private consulting firms,
at their downtown Los Angeles office.
This relocation allowed Ms. Park to
continue on with auditing and financial
analysis throughout California. Afterward,
she worked as the Assistant Controller
at New Wave Entertainment, a premiere
content development and production
enterprise, as well as the accounting
supervisor at Farmers Insurance Group.
Although
community outreach and volunteer work
has always been a part of her life,
it was here in Los Angeles that Ms.
Park decided to run for a seat on the
Board of Trustees of the Los Angeles
Community College District.
Ms.
Park is thankful for all the support
and encouragement she received during
and after her campaign, from Angelenos
throughout the Los Angeles Community
College District. Ms. Park promises
to work diligently with her fellow
Trustees, the Chancellor, and the Presidents
of the nine community colleges to help
improve the quality of education for
all current and future students throughout
the 36 cities served by the Los Angeles
Community College District in the greater
Los Angeles area.
