The African American Outreach Initiative consists of a group of dedicated faculty, staff and administrators from across the district who are concerned with the access and success of African American students in Los Angeles Community College District.

The initiative began as a directive from former Chancellor Rocky Young and has been carried forth by current Chancellor Dr. Tyree Wieder. Over the past 2 years, the group has met monthly to explore ways to improve outreach to the African American community, collaborate with the CSU “Super Sunday” event, explore support programs for African American students , develop our network of community contacts, renew and expand our HBCU articulation agreements, and engage our district through conferences and activities.
