A. COLLEGE
SERVICE AREA DELINEATION
This report section contains a delineation of the “College
Service Area” or Study Area. The College Service Area
is generally defined as that geographic territory from which
the majority of students should be or are likely to be drawn.
For this assignment the LACCD Office of Institutional Research
has defined the set of postal Zip Codes that comprise the
College Service Area. The Service Area consists of a set
of postal Zip Codes. This geographic boundary serves as a
base of study and provides uniform parameters for data collection.
The Exhibits in this section include community college student
enrollment by headcount, residence Zip Code, and by City
for the 2004 Fall quarter. In addition to LACCD selected
Zip Codes, a table has been provided that shows 100 percent
enrollment headcount for the 2004. This table also includes
enrollment figures for the subject college and community
college captures rates. These capture rates consist of the
total number of community students attending any community
college within the Study Area Zip Codes, and the number and
percent captured by the subject LACCD college.
Information is presented by means of data tables and thematic
density color maps. Maps include a 10-mile radius, and a
30-minute drive-time from the subject college. The principle
data source for these Exhibits is the State Community College
Chancellor’s Office, MIS Department and by Claritas,
Inc. Claritas, Inc. is a prominent national provider of business,
demographic and other strategic marketing data. Also, shown
is population and households by land area. This data is useful
in assessing potential student markets by area densities.
Every attempt was made to gather data for all of the LACCD-assigned
Zip Codes. However, in some cases, the District-assigned
Zip Codes were determined to be post office box numbers for
which Claritas, Inc. demographic or business data is not
available. Therefore, these Zip Codes may have been excluded.
The following Exhibits are provided in this Report section:
