F. COLLEGE SERVICE AREA ESTABLISHMENTS
This Section presents information
about public, private and non-profit establishments located
within the College Service Area. Establishments include all
types of entities, private businesses, government agencies,
non-profits, and others. The data is summarized at the 2,
3, and 6-digit North American Industry Classification System
(NAICS) Industry Code level. The data includes Industry Codes
and descriptions; number of establishments, and estimated
number of employees; and, gross sales. In addition, selected
data sorts have been provided showing women-owned and managed
establishments. Since College Service area Zip Codes traverse
multiple-jurisdictions, establishment summaries have also
been provided by those cities located within the subject
College Service Area. Also included are summaries of selected
businesses with the most employees and highest gross sales.
Another Exhibit shows selected Fortune 1000 companies.
This information is useful in understanding
the composition of the business base, existence of significant
industry sectors, estimated size of workforce, estimated
gross sales activity or economic activity levels, and other
such information. Included in this Report section is a summary
of College Service Area establishments as compared with the
same County of Los Angeles industry data.
This information is derived from
the prominent business data publishing firm, Claritas, Inc.
and has also been provided to the District in electronic
format. This database can be sorted by any of the over 20
data fields. Potential uses include GIS mapping, linkage
with other data bases. It can be used to conduct extensive
forms of analysis, to identify key industry clusters, identify
employment densities, create Local Area on-line networks,
identify home-based and small businesses, help market local
businesses, help generate B2B activity, etc.
